Do I Need Inspections If I Rarely Use My Fireplace?
Yes. NFPA 211 calls for chimneys, fireplaces and vents to be inspected at least once a year regardless of how often they are used, because the standard ties inspection to time and condition, not to burn hours. An unused chimney still faces rain, freeze-thaw cycles, animals, masonry deterioration and liner corrosion. Low use lowers creosote buildup; it does not stop weather, wildlife or ageing.
